LLOYDMINSTER, Sask. — A trial date has now been set for Nokota Pooyak, who was ordered to stand trial in Battleford Court of King's Bench following a preliminary hearing in January 2026..
Pooyak's trial is scheduled for Oct. 4, 2027.
Pooyak, of Sweetgrass First Nation, is charged with three counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Brent Peters, 66, and his sons Matthew, 32, and Brennan, 34.
He was arrested in January 2025 by the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre, where he was in custody since September 2024 on unrelated charges.
Lloydminster RCMP officers were called to a home on the Saskatchewan side of the city around 5:51 p.m. on Sept. 11, 2024, for a well-being check. When police entered the home, they discovered three men shot to death.
