WEYBURN — The Weyburn Police Service (WPS) responded to 85 calls for service during the week of May 17-24.
The WPS received a report May 23 of a hit and run that caused damage to a parked vehicle. According to the WPS, the offending driver later reported the collision to police and was issued a ticket for driving without due care and attention. Due to the man coming forward and admitting responsibility for the collision, he was not charged for failing to report the collision.
Members received a report May 24 of a vehicle colliding with a parked car, causing extensive damage to both vehicles. The WPS said the driver was also found to have an unendorsed warrant, meaning he was held in custody to appear before a judge. He was additionally charged with driving without due care and attention.
A concerned citizen contacted police during the week after encountering an elderly woman who appeared confused and unsure of her identity. Police attended and gathered enough information to begin investigating possible family connections. The WPS said her identity was eventually confirmed, and she was safely returned home to the care of her family.
Police received numerous calls regarding individuals causing disturbances on private property and refusing to leave when asked. In all instances, the WPS said officers were able to de-escalate the situations and the individuals left without further incident.
The WPS reminds the public to contact police for assistance in these situations, as this is a much safer option than attempting to remove someone when they refuse to leave.
Police received numerous complaints regarding loud parties taking place throughout the city. In several cases, the WPS said homeowners complied with requests to reduce the noise and keep the gatherings under control. In other situations, police were required to return, after which the homeowners chose to shut the parties down rather than receive a noise bylaw ticket.
Anyone with further information regarding any of these matters, or any other matter of a criminal nature, is encouraged to contact the WPS at 306-848-3250, the local RCMP detachment at 310-7267 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
