Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings are in place for southwest and central Saskatchewan Tuesday afternoon and evening as a system tracks over the province.
This comes as the Radisson weather radar tower is experiencing an unplanned outage. Crews are still working to determine the cause of the outage.
Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Lang says both weather radars at the Bethune and Schuler stations are still working.
“Part of Schuler’s beam is blocked because they’re building the new radar, and the reason that the beam is blocked is to protect the workers from the beams that are coming out from the current radar.”
Lang says they’re taking a wait-and-see approach to see when it will be fixed.
“Sometimes they can be fixed remotely, sometimes it might just be a software issue, but sometimes they may have to drive out there and see what’s going wrong with it,” Lang said.”As well, we do have other radars that when they’re put together they form a composite so they’re able to have bigger coverage and to cover those areas that might be out because of the outage at the radar.”
Regina is not under any watches or warnings, but Saskatoon and Moose Jaw are under severe thunderstorm watches and Swift Current has a thunderstorm warning. The storms will pass through this evening and should clear out by morning.
