ESTEVAN — Estevan emergency crews responded to a man who was injured while on Rafferty Dam.
According to the May 26 report from the Estevan Police Service, members assisted the Estevan Fire Rescue Service (EFRS) and Estevan EMS to tend to a man in distress on the reservoir. The individual reported to a third party that he had been injured while on a boat on the water.
The EPS said a drone operator was able to locate the boat, confirm that the man was aboard and communicate with him through the drone until EFRS members deployed their own vessel and rescued the man, who was subsequently transported to hospital for assessment.
In other recent police news, the EPS received a complaint May 26 of an individual trespassing on property and entering outbuildings in south Estevan. The complainant provided surveillance video of the suspect and the matter remains under investigation.
Members received a report of a quad being stolen during day shift. According to the EPS, a separate investigation during the night shift resulted in locating the quad. The EPS said the operator was determined to have prior permission to operate the vehicle but failed to advise the owner that it was taken. No charges were laid in the investigations.
A request was received to locate and conduct a well-being check on an individual who had left a residence after making concerning comments. The EPS said members attempted to locate the person for some time before she was reported to have returned home and confirmed to be safe and well. No further police involvement was required.
The EPS is investigating a mischief to a trailer in east Estevan. According to the May 25 police report, a lock was cut off and the trailer appears to have been lived in for a period of time. The matter remains under investigation.
A hit and run collision was reported from a parking lot in the Royal Heights area.
Two individuals were reported to be entering a repossessed residence in the central area. EPS members attended and determined that the residence was secure and nobody was present at the scene. The EPS said additional patrols in the area will be conducted to watch for individuals trespassing on the property.
Police attended to a domestic disturbance in which the EPS said property had been damaged during an argument. Members mediated the situation and the investigation is ongoing with additional statements to be obtained.
Several reports of motorbikes and quads travelling within city limits on roads and walking paths in south Estevan were received. Each report was investigated and several possible operators were spoken to. The EPS said police did not locate the vehicles being operated during the remainder of the shift.
