REGINA — The Regina Early Learning Centre is inviting families and community members to celebrate the opening of a brand-new bike path at its playground this week.
The new rubber bike path, located at the centre’s playground at 2115 Athol Street, was made possible through support from the Kal Tire RePlay Fund grant and installation work completed by CVS Paving.
The pathway itself was created using recycled rubber surfacing, part of a growing movement across Canada to transform old tires into safer and more accessible community spaces.
Since launching in 2019, Kal Tire’s RePlay Fund has supported community infrastructure projects nationwide using recycled rubber products, helping divert hundreds of tonnes of scrap tires from landfills while building playgrounds, parks, pathways and recreation areas.
Organizers say the path was created to provide children with a safe and engaging space to develop cycling skills while encouraging active outdoor play.
“This new bike path is a wonderful addition to our outdoor space and will provide our children with opportunities to stay active, build confidence and have fun,” said Kelly Thornton of the Regina Early Learning Centre.
The community celebration is scheduled for May 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will include a barbecue, family-friendly activities and an opportunity for children to try the new bike path.
Representatives from Kal Tire and CVS Paving are also expected to attend the event.
The Regina Early Learning Centre says the new pathway will help create more opportunities for children to stay active while supporting confidence-building and outdoor learning.
“We are incredibly grateful to Kal Tire for their support through the Replay grant, as well as CVS Paving for bringing this project to life,” Thornton said.
Families of children attending the preschool, along with members of the wider Regina community, are invited to attend the May 28 celebration.
