Buddy Holly released “That’ll be the Day” on May 27th, 1957. The song would go on to become Holly’s first number one hit.
Conway Twitty landed his seventh number 1 on this day in 1972 with song written by Floyd Cramer. “Lost Her Love on Our Last Date” would stay at the top for one week.
On the country albums chart, Alabama was number 1 this week in 1981 with “Feels So Right.” Three number one hits came from that album including the title track, “Old Flame,” and “Love in the First Degree.” They also had the number one album this week in 1985 with “40 Hour Week.” Three singles came from that one as well, including the band’s 18th chart topper “Can’t Keep a Good Man Down.”
Ty Herndon got his first number 1 on the country chart on this day in 1995. “What Mattered Most” stayed in that stop position for one week.
We’ll celebrate two birthdays today. Don Williams was born on this day in 1939. We lost the gentle giant to emphysema in September of 2017. Jace Everett is celebrating his 47th birthday today. He co-wrote Josh Turner’s first number one song titled “Your Man.”
High Valley landed their first number one hit in Canada on this day in 2017 with “I Be U Be.” It would stay at the top for two weeks.
MacKenzie Porter found herself at the top of the country chart in Canada one year ago this week with “About You.”
