Province looking for someone to serve as Chief Firearms Officer

The province is looking for someone to be its Chief Firearms Officer.

That position is usually appointed by the federal government, but Premier Scott Moe says they would appoint their own one earlier this year and that they are working with Ottawa to move from someone who is federally appointed to someone who is provincially appointed.

In a release, Corrections and Policing Minister Christine Tell says the government believe a provincially-appointed Chief Firearms Officer will be well positioned to represent Saskatchewan’s position on firearms regulation to the federal government.

The release goes on to say the successful applicant will have extensive experience in the field of firearm safety as well as experience with firearms laws in Canada, and they should also have a broad understanding of the diverse and unique demographic of Saskatchewan firearms owners.

Applications will be taken until June 10.
