SWIFT CURRENT – A man has been arrested after a vehicle fled from police on Highway 1 near Swift Current..
On May 27 at approximately 12:10 p.m., Moose Jaw RCMP observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed travelling west on Highway 1.
Officers engaged Swift Current Rural RCMP and Morse RCMP to assist.
Officers immediately responded and located the vehicle east of Rush Lake.
The vehicle was travelling over 200 kilometres per hour in a 110 kilometre per hour zone.
Officers activated their emergency lights. The vehicle did not stop and continued travelling westbound on Highway 1. A short time later, the vehicle stopped and the driver was arrested by police outside of a business off Highway 1 in Swift Current.
A 27-year-old man from Calgary, Alta., has been charged with:
- one count, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle; and
- one count, flight from peace officer.
He was also ticketed for driving more than 50 km/hr. over the speed limit, which resulted in a seven-day licence suspension, a 30-day vehicle impoundment and a $580 fine.
