MELFORT — A Melfort man charged with second-degree murder in the death of an infant was back in Melfort Provincial Court on June 1 and the matter was adjourned to June 22 to be spoken to.
The 37-year-old man was arrested in January and has since been released on bail.
According to RCMP, on Dec. 24, 2025, officers at the Melfort detachment received a report of an infant in medical distress at a home in Melfort. Officers responded immediately and located EMS attending to an unresponsive infant under one year of age. EMS took the infant to the hospital, where the infant died four days later.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) and Prince Albert Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) took over the investigation and arrested the man on Jan. 3.
