PELICAN NARROWS — A woman is dead and a man was seriously injured after a person with a firearm targeted two locations on the same road in Pelican Narrows on June 1, Saskatchewan RCMP said in an update Tuesday.
Insp. Ashley St. Germaine, acting officer in charge of the Saskatchewan RCMP's Major Crimes Branch, reported that the investigation in Pelican Narrows is still unfolding and is in its preliminary stages.
In the June 1 incident, two adults were injured by a person with a firearm. They were injured at two separate locations on the same road, a short distance away from each other. A woman was declared dead at the scene. A man was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
At 3:14 p.m., an updated alert was sent out with the description police had of the suspect. The school in Pelican Narrows was placed on lockdown by school officials. As the event continued to unfold around the time school was scheduled to let out, officers worked with the community to make a plan to get students safely out of the school and back to their homes.
At approximately 7:07 p.m., officers arrested a suspect at a residence in Pelican Narrows. One other individual was detained earlier in the day and was released without charges. Once the suspect was arrested, investigators determined that the dangerous person alert could be cancelled.
Saskatchewan RCMP urge anyone with information about this incident to report it to police immediately by calling 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
Police say there will be an increased police presence in Pelican Narrows as RCMP officers continue their work. Police will provide further updates when they are able.
Update 3: Saskatchewan RCMP have arrested a suspect following a shooting in Pelican Narrows that left one person dead and another seriously injured.
Police said the suspect was arrested at a residence in Pelican Narrows at approximately 7:07 p.m. on June 1.
The dangerous person alert issued by Saskatchewan RCMP for Pelican Narrows and the surrounding area has been cancelled.

Update 2: One person is dead and another is seriously injured following a shooting near the Pelican Narrows health clinic on Monday afternoon.
Saskatchewan RCMP said the incident remains active and the investigation and evidence gathering are still in the preliminary stages.
Shortly before 2 p.m. on June 1, Pelican Narrows RCMP responded to a report of a shooting near the local health clinic. Police clarified the incident did not take place at the clinic, as initially reported.
Two injured people were located. One person has been confirmed dead and another is seriously injured. Police are not releasing further identifying details about the individuals at this time.
No other injuries have been reported to police in relation to the incident.
The suspect is described as a male wearing all-black clothing and a face covering. Police are warning the public not to approach anyone matching that description.
Residents are asked to immediately report any information about the suspect, suspicious people or suspicious activity to police.
Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to call 911 in an emergency, 310-RCMP for non-emergencies or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
Emergency alerts issued by Saskatchewan RCMP in relation to the shooting remain active. Updates are available through the SaskAlert website.
RCMP said the next update will be provided the morning of June 2, or sooner if an increased public safety risk is identified.
Update: Saskatchewan RCMP believe the suspect is a male, wearing all black clothing with a face covering. The suspect is on foot. The direction of his travel is unknown.
