SHOAL LAKE CREE NATION — One person has been charged after a fatal rollover on the Shoal Lake Cree Nation.
According to a news release from the Saskatchewan RCMP, on June 5 at approximately 7 a.m., Carrot River RCMP members received a report of the incident.
Officers responded along with local fire and EMS crews. The RCMP said a passenger was declared dead at the scene. He has been identified as a 29-year-old man from Shoal Lake Cree Nation. His family has been notified. One other passenger, along with the driver of the vehicle, were assessed by EMS.
After further investigation, the RCMP said the driver was arrested at the scene.
The 24-year-old man, also from Shoal Lake Cree Nation, is charged with one count each of impaired operation of a conveyance causing death, impaired operation of a conveyance while impaired, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. All three charges are under the Criminal Code. He was also ticketed with multiple traffic offences.
The RCMP said the man is scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on June 8.
Carrot River RCMP said it continues to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
