REGINA — A fugitive wanted in a Regina murder has been ordered to stand trial in Regina Court of King’s Bench after his preliminary hearing wrapped up in Regina Provincial Court on June 10.
Daniel ‘Juma’ Atem faces a first-degree murder charge in the July 29, 2023, shooting death of 32-year-old Roman Miller in Regina’s Centre Square neighbourhood, in the 2100 block of Broad Street.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued for Atem in early 2024. He was later added to the BOLO Program’s Top 25 Most Wanted list in April 2024.
That fall, BOLO expanded its campaign to locate him, including putting up a large billboard and offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. Atem was arrested in Winnipeg in January 2025 and returned to Saskatchewan.

In January, Atem was sentenced to six months in custody for trafficking fentanyl and cocaine in Regina.
Atem’s co-accused, Shredek Samuel, is also charged with first-degree murder in Miller’s death. He was granted bail last year. He is scheduled back in Regina court on June 18 for his matter to be spoken to.
According to Regina police, Samuel turned himself in to RCMP in British Columbia in February 2024 and was returned to Saskatchewan.
