BIENFAIT — A Bienfait man has been charged following an incident that occurred in the town June 7.
According to the RCMP, members from the Estevan detachment were advised that the Estevan Police Service (EPS) had responded to a call for service in Bienfait.
The EPS arrested a man at the residence. As a result of the continued investigation, the Estevan RCMP has charged a 31-year-old Bienfait man with three counts of mischief under $5,000. He is scheduled to appear in Estevan Provincial Court July 20.
The Estevan RCMP thanked the Estevan Police Service for its assistance with this investigation.
“We are looking into the reports of difficulties connecting with Saskatchewan RCMP’s non-emergency lines; our division operational communications centre has been engaged,” the RCMP said in a news release. “We are unaware of any other issues with the lines at this time.”
The RCMP continues to encourage residents in need of police assistance to call 310-7267 for non-emergency situations and to always call 911 in an emergency.

Among recent calls for the EPS, members received a report June 10 of a domestic assault involving a youth and a parent. The EPS said the matter remains under investigation.
Officers assisted a property representative in examining a vacant building to confirm nobody was present after the structure had been secured. The EPS said nobody was located on scene and no signs of attempted forced entry were observed.
A report came in of an erratic driver operating a red GMC truck on Highway 39 near Estevan. Members conducted patrols immediately following the report, the EPS said, but were unable to locate the vehicle.
A complaint came in June 9 of a man shoplifting at a business in central Estevan. The EPS said the individual was identified and subsequently arrested and charged with theft. He was issued a trespass notice not to return to the business and was released with a future court date to speak to the charge.
Police investigated a report of a person trespassing on the train tracks in west Estevan. Members patrolled the area, but the EPS said officers were unable to locate anyone on or near the tracks.
A complaint was filed about an individual being harassed through unwanted communication. The EPS said additional information is required and the matter remains under investigation.
Members received a report of a near-collision involving a vehicle and two school-aged children in the Westview area. A vehicle description was provided, and the EPS said attempts to identify and contact the driver are underway.
Police were notified of an individual unlawfully staying in a vacant residence in central Estevan. The EPS said members attended and did not locate anyone on the property, but evidence that someone had been staying there was detected. The property representative has been advised to secure the property to prevent individuals from trespassing.
Officers and Estevan EMS staff attended a residence regarding a man reportedly lying on the steps outside during heavy rainfall. According to the EPS, it was determined that he had slipped and fallen on the stairs and injured himself. He was assessed by EMS and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for further treatment.
The EPS received several complaints regarding a white Dodge Ram truck driving erratically, with several people hanging off the side of the vehicle in a business parking lot on Kensington Avenue. The EPS said the vehicle left the scene prior to police arriving, but a vehicle description was obtained and the matter remains under investigation.
Staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital requested members attend to assist with a woman who was acting belligerently and aggressively toward staff members. Following police intervention, the EPS said a family member attended and transported the woman home and agreed to remain with her to ensure her safety.
Police received a report June 8 of a possible break and enter at a residence. The EPS said the investigation determined no items had been removed from the property, but the homeowner believed that items had been moved within the house. The matter remains under investigation.
A two-vehicle collision in east Estevan was attended to by EPS members. No injuries occurred as a result of the collision, the EPS said, and one of the drivers was issued a ticket under the Traffic Safety Act after failing to make a safe lane change.
Police were called about a theft of items from outside an east Estevan business. The EPS said video surveillance has identified an associated vehicle and the matter remains under investigation.
A report came in of two young children playing on the highway near the train trestle bridge in west Estevan. The EPS said members attended immediately following the report, but the children had left prior to police arrival.
EPS members attended a burglar alarm at a business in the Pleasantdale area. On arrival, the EPS said it was determined that the alarm was unfounded and caused by a water sensor.
Two compliance checks were conducted during the night shift on individuals bound by court-ordered conditions. The EPS said both were found at their approved residences and were in compliance.
A report of a suspicious individual in a back alley was investigated; however, nobody was located in the area indicated by the complainant.
