GOLDSTREAM PARK, B.C., — Five pets have been reunited with their owners in Saskatchewan after a cross-country investigation that ended with an arrest on Vancouver Island.
On June 12, the BC RCMP said the animals, two dogs and three cats, were recovered on May 24, after a BC Highway Patrol officer stopped a blue sedan on the Malahat Highway near Goldstream Park at approximately 2 p.m. The officer had noticed the driver giving him unusual looks and ran the Ontario licence plate, discovering that the man behind the wheel was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant issued in Saskatchewan for theft of animals. The RCMP said the animals matched the description of the two dogs and three cats that were found in the blue sedan.
The 36-year-old Ontario man was arrested without incident.
“The dogs and cats were transferred to the protective custody of the local animal control and then released without charges after promising to be good boys and girls,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin, media relations officer for the BC Highway Patrol RCMP. “They have now completed the long journey to be returned to their rightful owners in Saskatchewan.”
