78-year-old man dies in hospital from injuries suffered in assault

MUSKOWEKWAN FIRST NATION — The victim of an assault on the Muskowekwan First Nation has died in hospital from his injuries, the Saskatchewan RCMP said in a June 14 news release.

The RCMP said the victim has been identified as 78-year-old Douglas Moise from Muskowekwan First Nation. His family has been notified. The Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) has taken carriage of the investigation.

"Investigators believe the assault took place sometime between the afternoon of June 9 and morning of June 10," the RCMP said in a news release. "They would like to speak with anyone who saw – or captured on surveillance camera – any suspicious activity on Muskowekwan First Nation in that time range. They would also like to speak with anyone who saw or talked with Douglas Moise on June 9."

In a news release issued June 10, the RCMP said members of the Punnichy detachment received a report of a serious assault at Muskowekwan First Nation.

The initial release said an investigation determined an unknown individual or individuals broke into a residence and assaulted the man, who was taken to hospital with injuries described as serious. 

The RCMP asks people to report information by dialling 310-7267. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.

If an imminent risk to public safety is identified, the RCMP said it would notify the public.
