Saskatoon Berries 0, Regina Red Sox 6
The Regina Red Sox snapped their three-game losing streak in convincing fashion Tuesday night, shutting out the Saskatoon Berries 6-0 at Currie Field.
Kaegan Baker was outstanding on the mound, allowing just three hits and two walks over eight scoreless innings while striking out 11 on 93 pitches. The right-hander improved to 3-0 on the season and now owns a 0.86 earned-run average with 31 strikeouts through his first three starts.
Regina broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Will Togher delivered a two-run triple. Justin Simard collected three hits, while Jalen Meyers added a solo home run. Five different Red Sox recorded multi-hit performances as Regina improved to 6-8.
Nick Stinson had a pair of hits for the Berries, who fell to 10-5. Saskatoon returns to action Wednesday in Moose Jaw, while the Red Sox head to Swift Current for the second meeting in three nights with the 57's.
Swift Current 57's 3, Moose Jaw Miller Express 7
The Moose Jaw Miller Express won their seventh straight game with a 7-3 victory over the Swift Current 57's, moving into sole possession of first place in the East Division.
Reigning SaskTel Saskatchewan Player of the Week Chris Franks continued his torrid pace at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double. Garryn Plummer added three hits, while William Edwards chipped in with two more to lead the Moose Jaw offence.
Swift Current built a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning, highlighted by Jake Hiromoto's league-leading sixth home run of the season. But the Miller Express answered with two runs in the fifth to tie the game before pulling ahead in the seventh to improve to 10-4.
Medicine Hat Mavericks 10, Weyburn Beavers 0
The Medicine Hat Mavericks leapfrogged Weyburn for fourth place in the East Division after blanking the Beavers 10-0 at Tom Laing Park.
Frankie Giacalone had two hits to lead the Mavericks, who built a 5-0 advantage through five innings before erupting for five more runs in the ninth. Blake Dale also connected for his third home run of the season
On the mound, Derek Archer scattered four hits over six shutout innings, walking four and striking out 11. The two clubs will meet again Wednesday night in Weyburn.
Elsewhere in the WCBL, the Sylvan Lake Gulls defeated the Fort McMurray Giants 10-4, while the game between Lethbridge and Okotoks was suspended due to rain with the score tied 2-2 midway through the contest.
