SASKATOON — A man is facing charges after failing to stop and assaulting a police officer following a traffic stop on Monday night.
Shortly before 8 p.m., June 15, a Saskatoon Police Service CTSS (Combined Traffic Service Saskatchewan) officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding on Highway 12 in the RM of Laird.
Police say the driver was subject to a Mandatory Alcohol Screening test and registered a fail. When police informed the man that he failed, he fled the scene. The officer followed the suspect to a residence in Waldheim, and while attempting to make an arrest, the suspect assaulted the police officer.
An RCMP member arrived on scene and assisted in taking the suspect into custody.
A 47-year-old man is charged with failing to stop, resisting arrest, and assaulting a peace officer. He also was arrested on three outstanding warrants.
With funding from SGI, CTSS is an initiative designed to target distracted and impaired driving along with excessive speeding, in key areas of the province.
