REGINA — The Saskatchewan Roughriders will have a couple of valuable veterans sidelined and a pair of familiar faces returning to the line-up for their Week 3 Canadian Football League contest against the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday.
The biggest change to the line-up will see standout defensive back Rolan Milligan Jr. moving to the six-game injured list after banging up his shoulder during the season opener against the B.C. Lions. The injury occurred late in the first half when Milligan slammed into receiver Justin McInnis and was later seen on the sideline with his right arm in a sling and an ice bag on his shoulder.
The defensive back group also took a major hit with Canadian Nelson Lokombo moving to the one-game list with an ankle injury.
To fill those two spots, the Riders signed Canadian two-time Grey Cup champion Jonathan Edouard this past week and activated American Juju Hughes from the practice roster. Hughes slots in for Milligian Jr., Regina product Jaxon Ford gets the start in place of Lokombo with Edouard at backup safety.
Long snapper Aaron Crawford’s initial tenure in the position lasted a single game, as he moves to the six-game list with a knee injury. Saskatchewan signed Canadian Mike Benson as his replacement this week, and he gets the start Saturday.
The other two changes see a couple of Canadian veterans return to the lineup in linebacker Nick Wiebe and offensive lineman Daniel Johnson.
Former U of S Huskies standout Wiebe is back after missing Week 2 with a concussion and will take the place of Jayden Dalke, who is on the one-game with a hand injury. Wiebe slots in as a back-up to Josh Woods at weak-side linebacker for his return.
Offensive lineman Daniel Johnson also returns to the lineup after recovering from a shoulder injury. He’ll be the sixth man on the line and takes over from Eric Andresen, who moves to the practice roster.
The Roughrider Broadcast Network will have Saturday’s game beginning with the pre-game show at 2 p.m. followed by Dave Thomas and Luc Mullinder with the game call at 5 p.m.
