REGINA — A controlled natural gas flare will be occurring in the RM of Pense.
In a news release from SaskEnergy, the flare will occur at the town’s border station, roughly five kilometres northwest of Pense, from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The time is subject to change based on factors, according to the energy company.
During this time, people in the area may notice a flame up to 40 feet in the air.
SaskEnergy said the flaring is necessary to facilitate maintenance on the local natural gas distribution system and continued safe and reliable service.
The work includes removing a portion of the gas line, which will be isolated to help remove natural gas. The work is also stated to help reduce the carbon footprint of natural gas by 85 per cent compared to other methods.
The area surrounding the flare site will be supervised during the operation to ensure public safety. Residential natural gas service will not be impacted, and SaskEnergy has notified both the RM of Pense and the Pense Fire Department in advance of the maintenance work.
