The annual Pilot Butte Rodeo took place July 20th and 21st and it’s being considered a big success. Despite Sunday being rather wet thanks to mother nature, both Friday night and Saturday drew large crowds, especially at the Pilot Butte cabaret.
“Our whole lot was full. We had people parking in the ditches and across the highway. It was crazy (and) I’ve never seen the bleachers so full,” explained George Galloway of the rodeo committee.
Each year at the rodeo the committee awards a worthy volunteer the Harold Panno Award, which is named after one of the founding members of the rodeo in Pilot Butte.
“If you wanted something down, Harold certainly was the one involved and if some people didn’t think it was able to be done, Harold proved them wrong and got it done,” Galloway said.
This year’s award went to Rob Fouhse who was actively involved in local baseball, local hockey, coaching, and helping out where needed. He was also on the Pilot Butte Rodeo committee.
“Unfortunately we lost Rob last March way too early to cancer, but we felt it fitting that we recognize him and his efforts and we certainly do miss him,” noted Galloway. “It’s been evident that last two years that not having Rob around has certainly put a big hole in our committee and our ability to do what we do without him.”
The cabaret, featuring Foxx Worthee and Third Degree Birnz, was well attended Saturday evening with an estimated 1,100 people at the Rec Centre.

Friday evening, Caitlyn’s Crusaders Bronc match raised over $10,000 for MS research in Saskatchewan. The match is organized by Caitlyn Stenberg and features bronc riders from all over Canada. Due to the wet weather on Sunday, the organizers made the difficult decision to cancel the EPCCA chariot and chuckwagon races for safety reasons.
