ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service (EPS) has announced an aggravated assault charge against a 26-year-old Estevan man.
According to the police report for June 23, members located and arrested the man in connection with the incident, which the EPS said occurred earlier in June.
He was released on conditions and will appear in Estevan Provincial Court on Sept. 14 to speak to the charge.
In other recent police news, members continue to follow up with several leads regarding the whereabouts of Jesi Cloutier, a 28-year-old man who was reported missing late last week. The EPS said he has not been located through these efforts, and the EPS continues to seek the public’s assistance to locate and confirm the well-being of Cloutier. A complaint from an out-of-province woman was received June 23. She reported receiving threats from individuals in Estevan. The EPS said a statement is to be obtained by the police of jurisdiction where she resides, and it will be forwarded to the EPS for additional investigation.
Members attended to a business in the Pleasantdale area regarding a disturbance involving staff and a customer. The EPS said the investigation determined the issue was a misunderstanding that was quickly resolved by members shortly after arriving.
Two individuals were reported to be riding off-road motorcycles in south Estevan. Members located the pair and cautioned them against riding within city limits. The EPS said their bikes were placed in a nearby storage container.
The EPS received a complaint through a U.S.-based law enforcement agency indicating that an individual had contacted a suicide hotline in their jurisdiction and made concerning comments directed at individuals in Estevan. The EPS said the investigation identified a possible youth suspect who was spoken to by police but denied any involvement. The youth’s parents were advised of the complaint.
Police received a report of a hit-and-run collision that occurred near the police station, in which a parked vehicle was struck. The EPS said surveillance video of the area will be viewed to identify the suspect responsible. The matter is still under investigation.
A report came in of a customer failing to pay for fuel after filling up at a local service station. The EPS said an investigation identified the subject of the complaint. The person believed the tap feature on their credit card had worked. Arrangements were made for the individual to return and pay for the fuel the following day.
A complaint of a theft from a hotel room in east Estevan was received and the EPS said it remains under investigation.
The EPS received a June 22 request for a well-being check on a woman who was not answering her telephone. Members located her and the EPS said officers determined she was safe and well, and simply didn’t want to answer any phone calls. The initial caller was updated and no further police involvement was required.
Police received a well-being check request on a second woman but she was not initially located. The EPS said she was found safe while members were patrolling during the night shift.
Members attended to a business parking lot in the Trojan area to assist two motorists that had been involved in a collision. The EPS reported both parties exchanged information and were advised to go to SGI to report the collision.
The EPS received a report of an individual uttering threats. The matter remains under investigation, the EPS said, with statements pending.
Police were called to a local hotel for a report of an assault. As a result of the investigation, the EPS said a 51-year old man from Altona, Man., was arrested and lodged in police cells. He was charged with assault and released on conditions once sober. The victim in the occurrence sustained minor injuries but declined medical assistance.
