The Temple Gardens Centre Arena in Moose Jaw hosted one of their biggest concerts ever Wednesday night thanks to Dwight Yoakam.
Just before the concert, heavy rain drenched concert-goers prompting many to sit in their vehicles to wait out the storm before heading into the arena. Despite wet boots and pants, the weather did not dampen spirits of the fans as they filed through the doors to see 80’s and 90’s country legend Dwight Yoakam. Merchandise lineups were long as fans scooped up memorabilia prior to, and during, the show.

The Prairie States from Alberta opened the show Wednesday night starting at 7:15. They are 14-time Country Music Alberta award winners including being crowned the 2026 group of the year. Just before 9 Dwight Yoakam took to the stage and sang all his hit songs including some new songs. “Pocket of a Clown,” A Thousand Miles from Nowhere,” “Guitars Cadillacs,” “Honky Tonk Man,” “Little Sister,” “You’re the One,” “It Only Hurts When I Cry,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” and “Fast as You” were all performed, among many others.

Despite singing and songwriting much earlier, he hit mainstream success in 1986 when he released “Honky Tonk Man,” which would become one of his signature songs and kickstart a wildly successful career. “Guitars Cadillacs” would follow shortly after and it would get him Grammy nominations for best album and best country song in 1987. He’d win best new male artist of the year at the 1986 ACM Awards. Over the years Yoakam would score several number one songs, multiple top tens, multi-certified albums, develop a successful acting career in Hollywood, and build one of the biggest and most loyal fan bases.
