A 251-page report on Saskatchewan’s long-term care homes was released by the province late Friday afternoon.
The 2019 CEO Tour Report outlines what is working well and what improvements are needed at the many long-term care homes across the province. Some of the main concerns that were seen surrounded staffing, meal choices and aging infrastructure.
In a statement from the government, Minister of Rural and Remote Health Warren Kaeding said. “The health and well-being of seniors in LTC facilities is something our government takes very seriously. The special-care home program guidelines ensure safe, quality care and that the appropriate staffing mix is determined based on resident needs.”
Before the report was issued, the opposition NDP made a call for mininum-care standards to be established in long-term care homes with leader Ryan Meili saying the province has a record of inadequate care in long-term care homes.
The CEO Tour Report on Saskatchewan’s long-term care homes has been happening since 2013.
