Truth and reconciliation moved from page to practice, and Saskatchewan played its part.
In late June 2021, following confirmation of unmarked graves at former residential school sites, communities across Saskatchewan came together. They held vigils, healing walks, and created orange‑shirt memorials. Provincial and First Nations leaders declared June 2021 a month of remembrance and commitment. Flags flew at half‑mast at the Legislative Building and schools paused lessons for reflection. Those events deepened national awareness of residential‑school legacies and renewed calls for action.
They remain a solemn reminder that Saskatchewan’s story includes voices, once silenced, finally being heard.
