NORTH BATTLEFORD — Battlefords RCMP have charged three people after a firearm was discharged in North Battleford, killing a dog.
Two men and a woman have been charged after a firearm was discharged at a male walking his dog.
On June 26 at approximately 8 p.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of a firearm discharge on 8th Avenue North in North Battleford.
The investigation determined a man was walking his dog. A truck with multiple occupants inside approached the man. The occupants uttered threats and discharged a firearm, injuring the dog. The truck then fled from the area. The dog was declared dead at the scene. The man did not report physical injuries to police.
Shortly after the incident, Battlefords RCMP located the suspect’s truck parked outside a residence on 110 Street in North Battleford. Three men exited the residence and were arrested without incident. A woman ran from the residence. She was arrested by Battlefords RCMP.
Battlefords RCMP, with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team, obtained a warrant and searched the residence. Officers located and seized two firearms.
As a result of the continued investigation, a 37-year-old man from North Battleford, is charged with:
- one count, possession of a firearm with tampered serial number;
- one count, injuring or endangering other animals;
- one count, careless use of a firearm;
- one count, discharge firearm while being reckless;
- one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- one count, possession of a firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle;
- one count, possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized;
- one count, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon or restricted weapon;
- one count, operation while prohibited;
- one count, possession of a restricted/prohibited weapon with ammunition without a licence/registration; and
- one count, weapons possession contrary to order.
A 53-year-old man, from North Battleford, is charged with:
- one count, unsafe storage of firearms;
- one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm;
- one count, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized; and
- two counts, weapons possession contrary to order.
A 39-year-old woman, from Red Pheasant Cree Nation, is charged with:
- one count, uttering threats to animals; and
- one count, resist/obstruct peace officer.
One of the men was later released from police custody without charges.
The 37-year-old suspect appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on June 29. The 53-year-old suspect and the 39-year-old suspect are scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on Aug. 17.
