PRINCE ALBERT — Prince Albert police are investigating an incident that occurred on June 29 where an 18-year-old man is accused of using his vehicle to intentionally strike two victims following an altercation involving bear spray.
Officers were dispatched to a parking lot in the East Flat area, in the 700 block of 32nd Street East, at approximately 12:29 p.m., following reports that a person had been struck by a vehicle. Members of the Prince Albert Police Service responded with Parkland Ambulance and the Prince Albert Fire Department.
Two 18-year-old victims were located with injuries. One sustained what are believed to be serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle. The second was affected by bear spray and also sustained injuries during the incident. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.
The investigation has determined that a group of teenagers and young adults had gathered in the parking lot with several vehicles present. During the incident, occupants of one vehicle were bear sprayed, resulting in a physical altercation involving multiple individuals.
While the altercation was ongoing, police say an 18-year-old man intentionally drove a vehicle into another vehicle before striking the two victims, who were standing in the parking lot. All parties involved are known to one another, and police don’t believe this was a random incident.
The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. Police say charges are anticipated, and they are actively seeking the 18-year-old man. They say the suspect won’t be identified until formal charges have been laid.
The Prince Albert Police Service Patrol Division continues to investigate the incident, including the circumstances surrounding the discharge of the bear spray and the identity of the individual responsible.
