PRINCE ALBERT — The Prince Albert Police Service has launched a major crimes investigation following the death of a two-month-old female infant who died in hospital on June 30 after being admitted in critical condition.
On June 21, at 11 a.m., officers responded to a home in the 600 Block of 19th Street West to assist Parkland Ambulance who was attending for an unconscious two-month-old female.
On arrival, paramedics performed life-saving efforts on the infant and transported her to the Victoria Hospital. The infant was transported to the Jim Pattison Childrens Hospital in Saskatoon, in stable condition for further care on June 21 where she has remained.
On June 30, the infant passed away while in hospital.
The Prince Albert Police Service Major Crimes Unit, Forensic Identification Section and with assistance of Saskatoon Police Service Forensic Identification Section, along with the Coroner’s Office are investigating the death.
An autopsy is scheduled for July 2.
Police say further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
