SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) says it has been made aware of a text scam circulating through the community regarding provincial court traffic violations.
The fraud sends a text message, claiming to be from a police officer, and says the recipient has a provincial court traffic violation and must appear in court. It then asks people to click on a link to pay a fine.
Residents are being advised to block the number and ignore the text, the SPS said. Do not click the link or make any payments to the website.
“The Saskatoon Police Service will never send a text message regarding payments of any kind,” the SPS said in a news release.
If you have been a victim of any fraud or scam, please report it to the SPS at 306-975-8300. These text messages can also be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
