WHITE CITY – White City town council is reviewing a proposal for a potential commercial development that includes a four-storey hotel with an attached restaurant and a separate standalone restaurant.
At the committee of the whole meeting on July 6, council will receive a public presentation from the development group and discuss possible next steps regarding Parcel Y.
Before any planning approvals can be considered, council must review the proposal because Parcel Y is currently subject to a holding provision, the town states in a press release. At this stage, no decision has been made on whether to move forward with the planning process. Receiving a presentation does not constitute approval of the proposal; council has a responsibility to fairly evaluate all development proposals in a public and transparent manner.
Any future planning approvals would be considered following council’s review and applicable public processes, the city adds.
Parcel Y is located east of Highway 48 and South of Highway 1, just north-east of the McKenzie Pointe neighbourhood. Upon preliminary review, the proposed development meets the permitted use for the land, which is zoned as Highway Commercial / Industrial District (HCI).
This proposal is different from the previous mixed-use development proposal for the site, which council considered and ultimately denied in November 2025. The landowners submitted the current commercial development proposal in March 2026. Council requested and received additional technical information from the developer, including information related to servicing, drainage, traffic and site access. The developer’s submission and administration’s report are available through the Town’s Civicweb portal.
The public is invited to attend the July 6 committee of the whole meeting; however, seating in council chambers is limited and video cameras will not be permitted. The meeting will be livestreamed, and a recording will be available on the CivicWeb portal.
