ONION LAKE – Onion Lake RCMP have arrested and charged one individual after a break and enter and arson incident on Onion Lake Cree Nation.
On June 27 at approximately 5:45 a.m., Onion Lake RCMP received a report of a break and enter at the high school on Onion Lake Cree Nation. Officers responded, along with Onion Lake Cree Nation Peacekeepers. During a search of the school, officers determined there was a fire in the building. Onion Lake Creen Nation Fire Rescue responded.
The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The investigation determined the fire was suspicious in nature.
As a result of the continued investigation, a 22-year-old man, from Onion Lake Cree Nation, is charged with:
- one count, mischief over $5,000 – damage to property;
- one count, breaking, entering, and committing;
- one count, arson – damage to property; and
- one count, theft under $5,000.
The accused appeared in court in Onion Lake on July 6.
