REGINA — Regina’s highly anticipated second Costco has been issued a building permit.
According to the City of Regina’s building permit report, a $24 million permit was issued to 8701 Dewdney Avenue in Westerra, the location of the newest Costco, on July 8.
Construction has been ongoing in the area since the spring, and the issuing of this permit suggests building construction could begin soon.
The permit comes more than a year after the development received approval to proceed in Regina.
Costco had originally planned to build its second Regina-area store within city limits, but then opted for a less expensive site at the provincially owned Global Transportation Hub.
To keep the store in Regina, the city paid Costco $6.78 million as part of an incentive to purchase land in Westerra.
It’s unclear when the second Costco will open.
SaskToday recently reached out to Costco for a date, but received no response.
