REGINA — A Quebec man has been sentenced to 212 days in jail and fined $2,800 in connection with a grandparent scam.
Ciprian Teodor, 50, and Alexandra Condurache, 40, were arrested in December 2025 following reports of fraud in Regina, Saskatoon, and White Butte. Police say victims were defrauded of more than $40,000, with approximately $20,000 later recovered.
The two were jointly charged with multiple fraud offences. The scheme operated across Saskatchewan, and reports were filed with the Regina Police Service, Saskatoon Police Service, and White Butte RCMP.
According to Regina police, the scammer pretended to be a grandchild in distress, claiming they had been in a traffic accident, arrested, or stopped by police, and urgently needed bail money. Most of the victims were seniors.
Condurache, also from Quebec, had several charges against her stayed in December 2025. She received a conditional sentence to be served in the community on one count of fraud.
