CUT KNIFE — Cut Knife RCMP received 87 calls for service between July 6 and 12. These files include: assaults with weapons, animal calls, assaults, breach of peace, disturbing the peace, Excise Act, failure to comply with orders, frauds, Mental Health Act, mischiefs, impaired operation, other thefts under $5,000, motor vehicle collisions, sexual assault, utter threats, missing persons, information files, well-being checks and assisting other agencies and the public.
Notable files include:
On July 6, Poundmaker Security advised members that suspected gunshots had been heard in the area. RCMP attended and deployed a drone to assist in searching the surrounding area. Despite thorough ground and aerial patrols, no individuals, evidence, or signs of gunfire were located. It appears the reported shots remain as elusive as the prairie breeze.
On July 7, members attended court throughout the day. Several individuals failed to appear for their scheduled court dates. As a result, warrants have been issued for their arrests. As always, court attendance is not an optional RSVP.
On July 8, RCMP attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle near Highway 4. The vehicle fled from police and travelled toward the Grid 674 area. Members were able to obtain video evidence of the driver, and the matter remains under investigation.
On July 9, members attended a residence on Little Pine First Nation following a report of an assault with a weapon. During an altercation, the victim was struck in the head with an unknown object, causing a laceration. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment. The suspect was later located and provided with a court appearance notice.
On July 10, RCMP received a report of a fraud involving a computer pop-up claiming the victim's device had been infected with a virus. The victim was instructed to send $30,000 to remove the alleged threat. Fortunately, no money was transferred. The victim blocked the associated phone numbers and disconnected the computer to have it professionally examined. The investigation remains ongoing. Members remind the public that legitimate technology companies rarely fix computers by demanding the price of a new pickup truck.
On July 12, members responded to a mental health-related call involving an individual expressing thoughts of self-harm. RCMP located the individual, ensured their immediate safety, and connected them with appropriate mental health resources and family support. The individual remained with family members while seeking further assistance.
In addition to the incidents listed above, members conducted 11 traffic stops, resulting in a combination of warnings, violation tickets, impaired driving investigations, and licence suspensions. Members also responded to seven mental health-related calls throughout the reporting period, continuing to work alongside community members and support services to ensure individuals receive the assistance they need.
RED SERGE TIP
With summer vacation season underway, many families are packing up and heading to the lake, the campground, or somewhere that doesn't involve mowing the lawn. While it's tempting to post real-time updates and vacation photos on social media, consider waiting until you return home before sharing your adventures. Announcing that you're away for a week can unintentionally tell criminals that your house is unoccupied. Instead, ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property, collect any mail, and report anything suspicious. Good neighbours are one of the best crime prevention tools available—and unlike security cameras, they might even water your plants. By looking out for each other and saving the vacation photo dump for when you're back home, you can help keep your property secure and your summer memories limited to the fun kind.
