Rainfall event prompts city to seek finance assistance

REGINA — The need for funding to mitigate damage from heavy rains this summer will be on the 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 22 Regina executive committee meeting agenda.

A severe rainfall event that caused flooding across Regina has prompted city administration to seek financial assistance from the province.

The city received 63 millimetres from when the rain started on June 27 until 7 a.m. June 28.

As properties across the city were damaged from flooding, the city will apply to the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program.

Under the program, eligible private property damage claim expenses may be reimbursed up to $240,000 for a principal residence, $500,000 for small businesses, including agricultural operations and communal organizations, and $500,000 for non-profit organizations.

Meanwhile, landlords who meet the small business criteria may also be eligible for up to $240,000 per unit, or up to $500,000 for multiple properties.
