CUT KNIFE — Cut Knife RCMP received 58 calls for service between the dates of July 13 to 19. These files include; abandoned vehicles, assaults with weapons, animal calls, assaults, breaches of peace, disturbing the peace, discharge firearm with intent, failure to comply with orders, frauds, Mental Health Acts, mischiefs, impaired operation, other thefts under $5,000, motor vehicle collisions, possession for the purpose of trafficking, suspicious persons, theft of motor vehicle, information files, well-being checks and assisting another agencies and the public.

On July 13, RCMP responded to a shooting on Little Pine First Nation. A yellow truck had pulled up to the Little Pine store and shot at another vehicle, then fled. Video footage shows that this appears to be a targeted incident. RCMP spoke with those involved, but did not gain much information. The matter is still under investigation. If the public knows any information about this incident, please call the Cut Knife RCMP.
On July 14, Cut Knife RCMP received a report that a body part had been located on Little Pine First Nation. As a result of the investigation, officers have determined where it originated. The matter is not criminal in nature, so to be mindful of the privacy of those involved, police are not releasing additional details at this time.
On July 15, Cut Knife RCMP responded to reports of a yellow truck driving erratically on Little Pine First Nation. Officers located the vehicle, which attempted to flee from members after a tire deflation device was used. Shortly after, the vehicle was abandoned behind a residence. With the assistance of RCMP Police Dog Services and the Critical Incident Response Team, four individuals were arrested. The investigation determined the truck had been stolen from Minburn, Alta., and resulted in the arrest of two wanted individuals, while two others were released without charge. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to identify another occupant of the yellow truck.
On July 15, Cut Knife RCMP dealt with some Intoxicated people with open liquor on Main Street in Cut Knife. The open liquor was disposed of, and individuals had dispersed from the area so that families could continue to enjoy the space.
On the 16 of July, Cut Knife RCMP attended to a suspicious person in the RM of Hillsdale near Highway 675. Members attended, and a lone male was located, advising his friends ditched him. Members relocated the male to an area where he could continue to find a ride.
In addition to calls received, 22 traffic stops were made resulting in tickets, warnings, and impaired driving charges.

Cut Knife RCMP did a check stop on July 19 in the evening on Centre Road and the 674 Grid. Thirty-four individuals were checked for impaired driving. As part of the detection/ prevention efforts, one driver had failed the roadside screening device and was subsequently arrested. Their breath results were nearly three times the legal limit. They were given a court date to deal with the impaired charges.

Contrary to popular belief, RCMP members aren’t issued psychic powers at their training at Depot. We often hear, “Everyone knew who did it,” or see suspicious vehicles posted on social media hours before anyone calls the RCMP. Unfortunately, while news travels fast in a small town, it doesn’t always make it to the police.
If you see suspicious activity, an impaired driver, crime in progress, or something that just doesn’t seem right, please report it. We’d much rather check out something that turns out to be nothing than miss something important.
Remember, social media comments are not police reports, and the RCMP cannot start investigations we never receive. Help us keep our communities safe; if a crime or suspicious activity is important enough to post online, it’s important to report it to the RCMP first.
