ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service (EPS) hosted a barbecue on July 22 near the police station in honour of their 120-year anniversary, with canine and drone demonstrations for families present.
Held from 11 a.m-2 p.m., the free barbecue was run by police officers in and out of uniform. Families and community members, including City of Estevan workers, arrived to the barbecue.
Police Chief Jamie Blunden said the event was more popular than he expected.
“The community that came out, I mean, it's awesome,” he said. “It’s a bit of a milestone for us.”
Along with the free barbeque, drone demonstrations and a canine demonstration were held on the courthouse lawn. There was also a member of the joint tactical support team showing off his gear in the station.
Blunden said that the weather was a factor in the event’s turnout, as it was sunny and warm for families and kids, and he was glad to spend the afternoon mingling with community members.
“It's always nice to embrace the fact that you've hit a milestone. So, you know, we do that with the community.”
