On Wednesday, Regina’s executive committee moved to apply for funding through the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP), which requires final approval at the July 29 city council meeting.
The PDAP provides financial assistance for people, businesses and communities affected by natural disasters, including flooding.
Between June 27 and 28, Regina received 63 millimetres of rain, from when the storm began on June 27 until 7 a.m. on June 28.
The rainfall led to Service Regina receiving 331 service requests related to excessive water in residents’ homes and yards.
Under PDAP, certain damages may be eligible for provincial funding, including sewer, water and utility hookups, drywall, garages, driveways and more.
If approved next week, eligible private property damage claims may be reimbursed up to $240,000 for a housing unit owned and occupied by an individual.
Small businesses, including agricultural operations and communal organizations, may be eligible for up to $500,000, while registered non-profit organizations may also qualify for up to $500,000.
Meanwhile, property owners who meet the small business criteria may be eligible for up to $240,000 for a single unit or up to $500,000 for multiple properties.
PDAP disaster assistance claims are shared between the program and the claimant, with payments calculated after accounting for any applicable depreciation.
Under the cost-sharing formula for eligible private claims, the claimant is responsible for five per cent of eligible expenses, while PDAP covers the remaining 95 per cent.
