SANDY BEACH – Saskatchewan RCMP: have charged a man after a theft, flight from police, and assault in the Onion Lake area.
On July 22 at approximately 6:35 a.m., Maidstone RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 17, approximately one kilometre south of Sandy Beach.
Officers responded along with EMS. After further investigation, officers determined that after the rollover occurred, the male driver allegedly stole a truck from a passerby who had stopped to help at the scene. No one else was inside the truck at the time and it fled south on Highway 17.
Onion Lake RCMP were notified to assist.
After locating the male and stolen truck, officers activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop. The truck did not stop and fled from police. A short time later, the male abandoned the truck at a business in Onion Lake. The male allegedly assaulted an individual at the business and attempted to steal their vehicle. Officers arrived and arrested the male.
A 25-year-old man, from Onion Lake, has been charged with:
• one count, robbery;
• one count, theft of truck;
• one count, assault on peace officer with weapon/causing bodily harm;
• one count, taking motor vehicle without consent of owner;
• one count, operation while impaired of a motor vehicle;
• one count, operation while prohibited;
• one count, aggravated assault;
• one count, flight from peace officer;
• one count, fail to comply with release order condition; and
• one count, dangerous operation of motor vehicle.
He appeared in Lloydminster Provincial Court on July 23.

The adult male passenger of the vehicle that rolled over remained at the original rollover scene and was taken to hospital by EMS with injuries described as non-life threatening in nature.
