ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service (EPS) and other policing agencies conducted a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) blitz in Estevan on July 22.
According to a news release from the EPS, 69 summary offence tickets were issued under the Traffic Safety Act. Also, the EPS said officers gave 110 warnings for various Traffic Safety Act offences and violations under the Vehicle Equipment Regulations.
Thirty-one vehicle inspection notices were issued, the EPS said, and 90 approved screening device (ASD) tests were conducted with drivers. A 21-day driver’s licence suspension was issued and a vehicle was impounded when a driver tested positive for cocaine and THC on a roadside oral fluid device exam.
The EPS said the blitz was held in conjunction with members of the Regina, Saskatoon, Weyburn and Prince Albert Police Services, as well as the Saskatchewan RCMP, Saskatchewan Highway Patrol, a community safety officer from Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation, and SGI Traffic Safety staff.
The EPS thanked all of the participating agencies for their work to improve traffic safety in Estevan and for SGI’s support in continuing to conduct the STEP program, both locally and throughout the province.
