SASKATOON — Update: Traffic restrictions on Idylwyld Drive and 51st Street have now been lifted.
***
Prior update: Southbound traffic on Idylwyld Drive at the 51st Street overpass has been reduced to a single lane following an oversized vehicle impact to the structure at approximately 1:30 p.m. this afternoon.
City of Saskatoon says its engineering staff went immediately to the scene following the collision to assess the structure.
The single-lane restriction is expected to remain in place while debris is removed and the structural inspection is underway.
Drivers are asked to follow all posted signs and detours.
The city says it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
Original post: Saskatoon Police members are at the scene of a collision where the driver of a semi-truck towing a trailer and grain bin southbound on Idylwyld Dr failed to heed the height restrictions of the 51st Street overpass.
Police say the bin struck the overpass, was dislodged from the trailer, and is currently wedged, blocking the merge lane from westbound 51st Street.
While the through lanes of Idylwyld Drive are not affected directly by the grain bin, it's anticipated that extracting and re-loading it will severely hamper traffic. Drivers are asked to find alternate routes.
