ESTEVAN — An assault and driving complaints were among 58 calls for service for the Estevan Police Service (EPS) on July 25 and 26.
According to the weekend police report, the EPS received a request for a well-being check on an individual. Members attended and determined an assault had occurred. The EPS said one person was arrested and lodged in cells for the night before being released the following morning with a future court date.
Officers received a request for assistance from an apartment building tenant experiencing significant water seepage through the walls and roof. The Estevan Fire Rescue attended and determined there was no immediate hazard. The EPS said building maintenance will be responsible for repairs.
Police received a report of a vehicle leaving a central gas station without paying for fuel. The EPS said members located the registered owner, who subsequently returned and paid for the fuel.
Multiple individuals reported receiving scam text messages indicating that a summons had been issued for them to attend court, but that payment through an attached link would eliminate the need to appear. No financial losses were reported. The EPS reminds the public that messages of this nature are fraudulent, and police and the courts do not operate in this manner.
The Police and Crisis Team responded to several incidents involving individuals who required assistance.
The EPS received a report of fireworks being discharged in central Estevan.
Police received a noise complaint in northeast Estevan. Members attended and warned those involved about the applicable bylaw and directed them to reduce the music volume.
Officers received a report of a man threatening another man in central Estevan. The EPS said the matter remains under investigation.
Police attended to a residence in south Estevan after receiving information that a woman inside was unlawfully at large. She was arrested without incident and remanded before a justice of the peace for a court appearance in Regina.
A traffic stop resulted in a motorist being issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension. The EPS said after the motorist performed poorly on roadside standardized field sobriety tests (SFST), the driver provided blood samples for analysis. Charges of impaired operation by drug are pending.
Police received a report of an intoxicated man in a stairwell at a hotel in north Estevan. The EPS said members attended and determined he was not intoxicated, and assisted him in locating his room.
Officers received a report of two suspicious individuals in northeast Estevan. Members attended and located two youths in a park. After speaking with them, the EPS said members determined no criminal activity had occurred.
Police located several patrons of a local liquor establishment in possession of liquor in a public place. They were warned of their actions and sent on their way.
Officers conducted a curfew check on a youth and determined the individual, who was not complying with a court-ordered curfew. The EPS said the individual was located, arrested and later released to a parent with a future court date.
Police received a report of an intrusion alarm at a central business. Members attended and found the building secure.
An investigation began of harassing phone calls occurring over an extended period after the victim attended the police station and provided a statement. The matter remains under investigation.
Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle in south Estevan. The EPS said members attended and spoke with a couple who was passing through Estevan and attempting to catch up on sleep.
A search of a residence occupied by an individual bound by court-ordered conditions resulted in his arrest for consuming alcohol contrary to those conditions. The EPS said he was processed and released with a future court date.
A traffic stop involving a Novice 1 driver resulted in a vehicle seizure and a 60-day driver’s licence suspension. The EPS said the driver was found to have alcohol in their system, contrary to the conditions of their graduated driver’s licence.
Police received a request to attend a liquor establishment in northeast Estevan regarding a patron refusing to leave. Members attended but EPS said the patron had left prior to police arrival.
Officers received a report from a citizen regarding a man in a parking lot. Members attended and determined the individual had an outstanding warrant. The EPS said he was arrested and remanded before a justice of the peace for a court appearance in Regina.
Police received a report of a hit-and-run collision. The EPS said the matter remains under investigation.
Members received a report of two suspicious individuals trespassing in central Estevan. The matter also remains under investigation.
Police received a report of a theft at a public, city facility. The matter remains under investigation.
A female attended the police station to answer to a warrant for failing to attend court. She was subsequently released with a future court date.
Police attended a dispute between two neighbours. The EPS said the matter was successfully mediated between the parties.
