As Saskatchewan navigates through this heat wave, residents are doing anything they can to stay cool including eating ice cream. According to delivery service Skip, sundaes were the most popular order when it came to ice cream, making Regina the sundae capital of Canada.
The majority of Skip orders found cookies and cream flavour to be the most sought after by Saskatchewan residents, which is different from the overall national preference. Across Canada, chocoloate flavour was named the most popular followed by strawberry, oreo, mango, and vanilla. In the United States, neapolitan flavour (vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate) was the top choice for a second straight year.
What’s more intriguing is how Canadians are shifting away from the traditional ice cream cone and moving towards the milkshake as the preferred way of consuming ice cream. In fact, Skip says milkshakes outsold ice cream cones by 75 per cent during National Ice Cream weekend earlier in July.
What is the most popular time to order the cold, sweet treat? According to Skip, 8pm seemed to be when the ice cream cravings hit the hardest. However, Skip also discovered that folks in Winnipeg, specifically, would get cravings again at midnight.
Skip the Dishes delivery service was founded in Saskatoon by brothers Josh and Chris Simair in 2012 before moving the company to Winnipeg where it has since been purchased by a European company.
