Regina’s annual fair kicks off today at REAL District and there will be something for everyone at this year’s event.
“We’ve got so much great programming this year,” stated Cat Betker, Director of Signature Events for REAL District. “The Superdogs are coming back this year which is always a fan favourite. We’ve got the Reckless Motorsports doing the drift demonstrations, demo derby, and power wheel racing. We’ve got the third annual Saskatchewan strongest man (competition), and so much more.”
This year’s event will also include the Flying Fools High Dive Show, which involves a number of athletes who combine daring stunts, comedy, and excitement from a diving board 25 meteres above a shallow pool.
“Now that they’re set up and I see how tall that aparatus is, I don’t know how they do it,” chuckled Betker. “It’s quite entertaining and they put on a really great show.”
Fairgoers will also have plenty of odd and unusual food combinations to try, such as brisket in a bag, cookies and cream corndogs, deep-fried butter tarts, QCX dill pickle pizza, mighty moo perogy bowl, twista-roni, and the Dubai pistachio chocolate slush.
“A big day on Sunday. We’re bring back the 5k midway fun run. We’ve got a little bit of room left, so you’re going to run through the midway, run through Mosaic Stadium, and this year we’ve added the fun of inflatables, so you get to run through inflatables,” Betker added.
The Queen City Ex rins from noon to 11pm daily starting today (July 29th) and will feature concerts each night. 620 CKRM and SaskTel and very eager to present a night of 90’s country on Wednesday featuring Collin Raye and Billy Dean, beginning at 8pm. All shows begin at 8pm on the Original 16 stage in Confederation Park each night with Dallas Smith, The Arkells, Down With Webster, and Helix and Quiet Riot.
