Regina has been a busy city with sporting events including football, baseball and now a national track and field meet. The Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships are in Regina from August 7 to 9th at Douglas Park. This is Canada’s only track and field championships for the under-16 and under-18 categories. The Royal Canadian Legion celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2026. This is the 48th year for the Legion Nationals where over 1000 young athletes compete for Canadian championship medals. Regina will hold the event in 2026 and 2027.
Roberta Taylor, Provincial President of the Royal Canadian Legion – Saskatchewan Command gave us information about the event and why they need a variety of volunteers. From the local branches to provincial commands and the national organization, the Legion proudly supports youth athletes across Canada. Simply by becoming a Legion member, you help keep programs like the Legion Nationals Youth Track and Field Championships going. As far as numbers go, 1000 young athletes, 200 coaches and countless volunteer took part in the historic 2025 Legion Nationals breaking the 1000 mark while also registering the first ever competition in Para athletics!
If you have just become a Legion member, this is a great event to lend a hand. Volunteering is easy; pop into the Regina Branch #001, during their regular hours of 10am to 2pm.
