TURTLEFORD — The death of man in the custody of the Turtleford RCMP detachment is under investigation by the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT).
A 37-year-old man was arrested during the execution of a warrant at a residence on Thunderchild First Nation on July 29, police report.
The man was transported Turtleford Detachment cells at approximately 1:30 p.m.
RCMP say that around 3 p.m., the man experienced medical distress. RCMP officers say immediate medical assistance was provided. Further assistance was provided by medical professionals who were contacted and attended the detachment. The man was declared deceased at the detachment.
The man’s family has been notified of his death.
As required by The Police Act, 1990, Saskatchewan RCMP notified the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) of the in-custody death. SIRT determined the incident to be in the scope of their mandate and will conduct an investigation into the circumstances of the death.
As SIRT is investigating, Saskatchewan RCMP cannot provide further information.
