SASKATOON — Three friends are celebrating after winning $250,004 on EXTRA.
Terry Nelson of Battleford and friends Leslie Deptuch and Linda Benko, both of Saskatoon, won the prize after purchasing their winning DAILY GRAND and EXTRA ticket.
“We are a group of three that worked together and started buying tickets,” Nelson explained. “We retired and just kept the tradition going … now we buy once a week.”
Nelson said she discovered the win while checking the group's tickets.
“I texted our group chat when I realized we’d won to show them,” she said.
“I got a text notification in the group chat and I didn’t check my phone,” admitted Deptuch. “Linda asked me if I’d looked at the text a few moments later and I realized maybe we’d won something.”
“I asked if it was real,” laughed Benko. “I said I’d believe it when I see it.”
Now, the three former colleagues are excited to enjoy their winnings.
“I’m putting some towards house repairs and saving some as a nest egg,” said Nelson.
“I’m sharing with my grandchildren and finishing my fence,” smiled Benko.
Deptuch said she’s going to sit with the winnings for a while and decide what she’d like to do next.
“It’s pretty amazing to win,” said Benko.
The group purchased the winning DAILY GRAND and EXTRA ticket from 29th Street Market in Battleford. They won their prize by matching all seven digits in the July 2 EXTRA draw: 3622056.
