ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service (EPS) has announced a youth has been charged for shoplifting.
According to the Aug. 11 police report, a young person was charged following a recent shoplifting investigated at a local business. He will appear in Estevan Youth Court at a later date to speak to the charge.
Also on Aug. 11, the EPS received a request to conduct a well-being check on a woman believed to be residing in Estevan. The EPS said an investigation confirmed she had lived in Estevan for a period of time but had moved away from the city several weeks prior, and her whereabouts after leaving were unknown. The complainant was updated.
The EPS says it is investigating a report of harassing communications received by an employee at a local business.
Two youths were reported to have trespassed at a private residence and removed items that were then littered in an alley a short distance away. The EPS said the individuals were identified and follow-up with both youths and their parents is underway.
A female was reported to be causing a disturbance at a motel in the city centre. An investigation determined she had previously been issued a trespass notice not to attend the business, the EPS said, and was subsequently charged under the Trespass Act and sent on her way.
A complaint was filed of a large group of youths standing on the hood and roof of a vehicle in the parking lot of a business. The EPS said members attended but were unable to locate any of the individuals or the vehicle.
The EPS reported it received a complaint of an individual loitering and sleeping on benches at Affinity Place on Aug. 10. Members attended and located an Estevan man, who is known to police, and sent him on his way.
A report of an individual fraudulently using a complainant’s name for financial purposes was received, the EPS said, and remains under investigation.
Members attended to an alarm at a business in east Estevan, which the EPS said was determined to have been set off by staff on scene.
A suspicious vehicle in the Westview area was investigated, the EPS said, and determined to be an individual waiting in their vehicle for another person to arrive home to access their residence.
A report came in of a vehicle driving towards a pedestrian in the Centennial area during night shift. Members patrolled the area immediately after the complaint but were unable to locate the vehicle, described as a white pick-up truck.
A report of gunshots in the city centre area was investigated and determined to be fireworks being set off. The EPS reminds the public that under the city’s fire prevention bylaw, it is unlawful to set off fireworks in city limits without obtaining a written permit.
Multiple compliance checks and searches were conducted on individuals bound by court-ordered conditions. The EPS said all those checked were found to be in compliance with their respective conditions.
