REGINA — Two women made separate court appearances in connection with a shooting in North Central Regina that left two people dead.
Patricia Stevenson, 19, and Rose Sparvier, 42, each face two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Sarah McGillis, 42, and Arland Nahnepowisk, 37, on Aug. 11, according to court documents.
Stevenson appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Aug. 12, where the charges were read. Court heard that Stevenson is seeking legal aid counsel. Her matter was adjourned to Aug. 19 and she was remanded in custody.
Sparvier, who was arrested Wednesday morning, also made her first appearance in Regina court on Aug. 12.
In addition to the murder charges, Stevenson is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded prohibited firearm.
According to Regina Police Service, officers were called to the scene early Tuesday morning and found two deceased individuals outside a home. Officers secured the area and requested additional resources of the the Regina Police Service Major Crime Unit, the Regina Police Service Forensic Identification Unit and the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service.
Police say Stevenson fled the scene and attempted to hide from police in a nearby yard. She was taken into custody with the assistance of the Canine Unit. During the arrest, the Police Service Dog bit her and she was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries consistent with a dog bite.
