REGINA — A woman who robbed a Regina taxi driver and threatened him with an axe in 2023, has had her statutory release revoked for the fourth time.
In its July 29 decision, the Parole Board of Canada said 29-year-old Nashoni Riddel posed an “undue risk to society.” The board’s decision comes after several failed release attempts that resulted in an escape, drug use, and delusional episodes.
According to parole documents, Riddel went unlawfully at large (UAL) typically within days of being released.
In July 2025, during her second statutory release, Riddel was escorted by plane and met at the airport by parole officers who planned to driver her to a treatment centre. While the officers loaded her belongings into the back of a government truck, she jumped into the front seat, started the vehicle and sped away with the tailgate still open. Parole officers called police and officers later arrested her. She was found with a razor blade in her lip and had hidden the vehicle’s keys in a body cavity.
Riddel has a connection to street gang activity that traces back to her childhood, according to parole documents. Her mother, who was in a street gang, introduced her to that world and taught her how to be a gang member. Riddel said she feared her mother but looked up to her as “rank and solid.” Her brother belongs to a different street gang.
Riddel was raised by her grandparents but when her mother died in 2020, she described that loss as “significant.”
Parole documents reveal that Riddel started abusing alcohol and drugs at age 13, with methamphetamine becoming her drug of choice at 24. She has experienced auditory and visual hallucinations while incarcerated and has a history of self-harm. She reported using methamphetamine with the goal of dying.
