BLAINE LAKE – Blaine Lake RCMP are investigating a fatal collision.
On Aug. 19 at approximately 3 a.m., Blaine Lake and Rosthern RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle collision on Highway 12. The collision occurred south of Blaine Lake on the Petrofka Bridge.
The investigation determined a minivan collided with a roadside safety barrier and subsequently collided with a parked heavy equipment vehicle. The driver and sole occupant of the minivan was declared dead by EMS at the scene. He has been identified as a 63-year-old man from the Prince Albert area. His family has been notified.
The heavy equipment vehicle did not have any occupants at the time of the collision.
Highway 12 was temporarily closed but has since been reopened.
Blaine Lake RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
As of Aug. 20 at 7:30 a.m., Saskatchewan RCMP reports there have been 61 fatal collisions with 74 fatalities on roadways policed by the Saskatchewan RCMP in 2026.
